Pavilion House

This holiday-evoking, family home is the result of combining an existing Californian Bungalow with a new north facing pavilion, pool and granny flat within a sun-filled garden. The beautiful young family favoured both traditional and modern design features, so the solution was for an open plan layout with a refined classic style that connects to their garden through a series of French timber doors.
The incredible clients, Lisa and James and their two children, effortlessly create daily rituals around pasta making, cake baking and entertaining alfresco, despite their busy professional pursuits. With this in mind, it was clear that a well functioning and large scale kitchen with dedicated bbq and bar nook would have to become the main attraction. While a generous pantry with custom butler's kitchen and separate large laundry became a close second on the form/function priority list.
While the new addition was coming together as the family oriented wing, their existing Bungalow, which we connected through a narrow atrium to the pavilion needed an upgrade itself. The original kitchen was closed in to become a 4th bedroom/study and the master bedroom received custom wardrobes and upholstered banquet for additional storage and seating. The front facade required a new fence, garden bed, painting, paving and carport while the granny flat and garden to the rear acquired a makeover as well.
The weatherboard cladding, soft palette of greys, dusty pinks and blues along with shaker joinery panels, vintage exterior lighting and heritage fittings are a nod to Lisa and James' traditional tastes. While the large-format porcelain floor tiles, open plan layout and architectural lighting are respectful of their modern lifestyle.
